## Descripción

FlexiLay is a **lay-by / instalment scheduling platform** for WooCommerce.

This plugin adds FlexiLay as a payment option at checkout, allowing customers to:
–
Pay an upfront deposit – Schedule the remaining balance over time – Complete all
payments **before order fulfilment**

FlexiLay is **not a credit product** and **does not provide lending or Buy Now Pay
Later (BNPL)** services. Orders should only be fulfilled once payment is completed
in full.

### Key features

 * Native WooCommerce payment gateway
 * Secure merchant registration and pairing
 * Deposit + instalment scheduling
 * Order placed on hold until payment completion
 * Native FlexiLay merchant admin screens inside WordPress
 * Works alongside existing payment methods
 * No funds held by FlexiLay
 * GPL-compatible and translation-ready

### Privacy

This plugin connects your store to FlexiLay to create and manage lay-by payment
plans.

### Data sent to FlexiLay

When customers choose FlexiLay at checkout, the plugin sends the order and customer
details required to create a payment plan (for example: order totals, line items,
and contact details) to your configured FlexiLay API endpoint.

### Support Chat (Crisp)

If you enable Support Chat (Crisp) in the FlexiLay Settings screen, the plugin loads
Crisp’s script on FlexiLay admin pages only. The plugin tags the Crisp session with
your store shop domain for support context. No personal customer data is sent to
Crisp by the plugin.

Please ensure your store’s privacy policy discloses any third-party services you
enable.

## FAQ

### What is FlexiLay?

FlexiLay is a **LayBy / Lay-A-Way instalment scheduling platform** that allows customers
to pay a deposit and complete the remaining payments over time **before goods are
supplied**.

FlexiLay does not provide credit and is not a BNPL service.

### Does FlexiLay hold or process customer funds?

No. FlexiLay **does not hold, store, or move customer funds**.

FlexiLay facilitates payment scheduling only. Payments are processed directly by
the merchant’s connected payment gateway (such as Stripe).

### How does the WooCommerce checkout flow work?

 1. Customer selects **FlexiLay** at checkout
 2. WooCommerce creates the order and places it **on hold**
 3. Customer is redirected to FlexiLay to:
 4. * Choose a deposit
     * Select instalment frequency
     * Confirm their payment plan
 5. Customer completes all payments externally via FlexiLay
 6. Merchant fulfils the order once payment is complete

### What order status does FlexiLay use?

Orders are placed into **“On hold”** while the FlexiLay plan is active.

This prevents fulfilment until payment is completed.

### Does FlexiLay support deposits and partial payments?

Yes. Customers can:
 – Pay a flexible deposit – Schedule instalments weekly, fortnightly,
or monthly – Complete the plan early if supported by the merchant configuration

### Why is my store waiting for approval?

When you first save the FlexiLay settings, your store is registered with FlexiLay
and marked as **pending approval**.

Once approved in the FlexiLay admin, saving the settings again will automatically
retrieve your API key.

### Why is the payment method disabled after saving settings?

The gateway disables itself automatically if:
 – Required settings are missing –
The FlexiLay server cannot be reached – The store is not yet approved – An API key
has not been issued

This prevents broken checkout experiences.

### Where do I manage my FlexiLay account?

After installation, a **FlexiLay** menu appears in WooCommerce admin.

This opens the FlexiLay merchant admin screens inside WordPress, where you can:
–
Complete onboarding – Connect a payment gateway – View plans and balances – Manage
merchant settings

### Is customer data sent to FlexiLay?

Only the minimum data required to create a payment plan is sent, including:
 – Customer
name – Email address – Phone number (if provided) – Order totals and line items –
Shipping address (for reference only)

No WordPress credentials are shared.

### Does FlexiLay work with subscriptions?

No. FlexiLay is designed for LayBy and Lay-A-Way style purchases where goods are
supplied **after payment completion**.

### Can FlexiLay be used for digital products or services?

FlexiLay is best suited to goods or services delivered **after payment completion**.

Merchants are responsible for ensuring their usage complies with local consumer
law.

### What currencies are supported?

FlexiLay uses the store currency configured in WooCommerce.

Supported currencies depend on the connected payment gateway.

### Does FlexiLay replace my existing payment gateway?

No. FlexiLay runs alongside other WooCommerce payment methods.

### What happens if FlexiLay is unavailable?

If the FlexiLay API cannot be reached:
 – Checkout will display an error – The order
will not proceed – No payment will be taken

### Is FlexiLay a Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) service?

No. FlexiLay is a **LayBy / Lay-A-Way platform**, not a lending product.

### Is this plugin compliant with WordPress.org guidelines?

Yes. This plugin:
 – Is licensed under GPL v2 or later – Uses WordPress APIs and
security best practices – Escapes output correctly – Supports translation – Does
not bundle third-party SDKs improperly

### Where can I get support?

Support is available at:
 https://flexilay.com/

### 󠀁[Excellent App](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/excellent-app-103/)󠁿

 [mandyhunniford](https://profiles.wordpress.org/mandyhunniford/) 12 de marzo de

First review I've done as I wanted to let others know that this app is fantastic,
allowing people to part payment for orders and then being able to manage those orders
has helped our store a lot. I'd encourage people to download and see how they go,
we were surprised how good it has been both for managing customers but also revenue
uptick on giving people the ability to purchase in part payments.

## Registro de cambios

#### 1.4.6

 * **Checkout Look on the Settings tab:** Your logo, square mark, background photo
and brand colour on the FlexiLay checkout are now managed from WooCommerce —
the same panel as the FlexiLay dashboard. FlexiLay reads them from your website
automatically; replace any image, pick a colour, switch the branding on or off,
or press «Refresh from my store» after a redesign. Previously these were only
visible from the FlexiLay dashboard, so WooCommerce stores could not see or change
   what their customers were shown.

#### 1.4.5

 * **Fees setting reworded:** The Fees toggle now reads «Charge the customer one
service fee on their first payment». When it is on, the FlexiLay fee and card
processing are combined into a single line on the customer’s first payment —
shown as «LayBy service fee» or «Lay-A-Way service fee» to match your Checkout
Branding — and never itemised as separate FlexiLay or card fees. Amounts are
   unchanged.

#### 1.4.4

 * **Per-product payment deadline:** A new «FlexiLay: must be paid by» date on the
product edit screen (General tab) for tickets, events and other date-sensitive
items. Customers’ instalment options are limited so the plan is fully paid on
or before that date — if the date is too close for instalments, they simply pay
in full. When a cart mixes items, the earliest date across all items applies.
Leave it blank for no deadline.

#### 1.4.3

 * **Choose LayBy or Lay-A-Way wording:** A new Checkout Branding setting on the
FlexiLay Settings tab lets you pick the term your customers see. The choice is
saved to your FlexiLay account, so checkout, plan setup and plan pages all match.

#### 1.4.2

 * **Your FlexiLay branding now shows at checkout:** The payment method displays
the «LayBy powered by FlexiLay» or «Lay-A-Way powered by FlexiLay» logo, matching
whichever wording you have chosen in your FlexiLay dashboard. Works on both the
classic checkout and the newer block-based checkout.
 * **Consistent wording:** The default payment method description now reads «Pay
over instalments with LayBy» (or Lay-A-Way), instead of naming a fixed number
of payments — your customers choose their own schedule within the limits you
set. If you have customised the title or description, your wording is kept.

#### 1.4.1

 * **Ready to sell the moment setup finishes:** The FlexiLay payment method now
switches itself on the first time onboarding completes (approval, pairing and
Stripe connected) — no more hunting for the enable toggle. If you enable or disable
it manually in WooCommerce Settings Payments, your choice is always respected
   from then on.
 * **Setup visibility for support:** The plugin now lets FlexiLay know whether the
payment method is enabled at your checkout, so our team can proactively help
stores that finished setup but aren’t offering FlexiLay yet.

#### 1.4.0

 * **Smoother checkout hand-back:** After completing plan setup, customers now land
on your store’s normal order-received (thank-you) page and their cart is emptied.
A new «Cancel & return to store» link on the FlexiLay setup page brings customers
straight back to your checkout — cart intact — if they change their mind.
 * **Respects your Hold Stock setting:** If WooCommerce auto-cancels an unpaid order(
or you cancel it in wp-admin) before the customer finishes plan setup, FlexiLay
now cancels the unpaid plan too — the setup link stops working and no reminder
emails are sent. Set WooCommerce’s «Hold Stock» option to control how long customers
   have to complete setup.
 * **Order history you can trust:** A FlexiLay status update can no longer put a
cancelled or refunded order back on hold. If a plan and its order ever disagree(
for example the plan is paid but the order was cancelled), FlexiLay adds a clear«
review needed» note instead of changing the order.
 * **Admin tidy-ups:** The «Cancel plan» button no longer appears on completed or
cancelled plans (cancelling a completed plan was already rejected by FlexiLay),
and some obsolete internal calls were removed.

#### 1.3.9

 * **Legal documents open in a popup:** Viewing a legal document (Merchant Terms,
Service Agreement, Privacy Policy) now opens it in a modal on the Onboarding
screen with an Accept button, instead of navigating to a separate page.

#### 1.3.8

 * **Automatic registration:** Your store now registers with FlexiLay automatically
when you open the Onboarding screen — no «Register» button to hunt for. Step
   1 is now «Registration & Approval» with a single «Check Approval» action.
 * **Approval completes on its own:** Once FlexiLay approves your store, the Onboarding
screen now detects it automatically (with a manual «Check Approval» button as
a backup). A banner shows while approval is pending, with a reminder to email
support@flexilay.com if it takes longer than 24 hours.
 * **Fixes:** Resolved an onboarding deadlock on fresh installs where the screen
could show a «couldn’t load status» error and never register (the merchant status
check is only available after approval, so onboarding now bootstraps via registration
instead). Fixed a «please wait before trying again» message when re-checking
approval, and the Refresh button now re-checks approval.

#### 1.3.4

 * **Fix:** Fresh installs can now onboard out of the box. The plugin defaults to
the FlexiLay production server (https://my.flexilay.com) when no API base URL
has been configured, so the Register & Pair step no longer dead-ends with «API
base URL is not configured.» Self-hosters can still override this in settings.
 * **Improvement:** Added an always-visible support contact (email, website, and
live chat) to every screen of the FlexiLay admin so help is easy to find if anything
   goes wrong.

#### 1.3.3

 * **Branding:** Renamed the plugin to «FlexiLay Layby & Payments» to better reflect
its lay-by and payment scheduling features. No functional changes.

#### 1.3.2

 * **Fix:** Reinstalling the plugin (after deleting it) no longer gets stuck on «
Onboarding incomplete» with an «Invalid install token» error. The pairing identity
is now preserved across uninstall, and the FlexiLay backend can securely re-pair
a reinstalled site via a signed origin check.

#### 1.3.1

 * **Compatibility:** Verified against WordPress 7.0 («Tested up to» bumped to 7.0).
 * No functional changes from 1.3.0.

#### 1.3.0

 * **Security:** Added HMAC-SHA256 webhook signature verification for all incoming
plan status updates from FlexiLay backend
 * **Security:** Enforced HTTPS for API base URL in production environments
 * **Security:** Added rate limiting on onboarding registration and pairing endpoints
 * **Security:** Stripe URL extraction now validates URL starts with https://connect.
   stripe.com/
 * **Security:** Removed deprecated order_set_status endpoint — order status now
   managed exclusively via verified webhooks
 * **Improvement:** Added comprehensive security event logging (WP_DEBUG_LOG)
 * **Improvement:** Enhanced error handling in payment flow — HTTP status codes
   now properly handled
 * **Improvement:** Added X-Flexilay-Api-Key header to draft plan creation for proper
   API authentication
 * **Improvement:** Added merchant pairing check before checkout — prevents customer
   confusion if merchant not configured
 * **Improvement:** Order lifecycle now mirrors Shopify flow: on-hold processing
   completed/cancelled
 * **Improvement:** Plan status webhooks add order notes for full audit trail
 * **Improvement:** Added WooCommerce minimum version check at runtime (8.0+)
 * **Fix:** Refund endpoint now calls correct backend path (/api/plans/{id}/refund)

#### 1.2.6.6

 * Improved legal acceptance save validation in the WooCommerce admin.
 * Shows a clear error when FlexiLay accepts the request but does not persist acceptedDocs
   server-side.
 * Version bump for admin onboarding diagnostics.

#### 1.2.6.5

 * Fix onboarding completing before legal documents are saved
 * Require Save acceptance before legals count as complete
 * Prevent final legal checkbox from jumping to the completion screen before save

#### 1.2.6.4

 * Clear stale local pairing state when a merchant has been deleted and onboarding
   is started again.
 * Stop legal document acceptance from being restored from old browser local storage
   on a fresh install.
 * Normalise onboarding status so Register & Pair, Stripe, and Legals only show
complete when the current merchant state supports it.

#### 1.2.6.2

 * Fix onboarding status incorrectly showing as complete
 * Fix stale API key causing false registration state
 * Improve onboarding step validation (Register & Pair)
 * WooCommerce 10.6.2 compatibility update

#### 1.2.6.1

 * Initial onboarding state fix

#### 1.2.6.0

 * Replaced raw admin footer Crisp injection with a proper enqueued admin script.
 * Expanded REST plan ID route patterns to support hyphens, underscores, and mixed-
   case identifiers.
 * Prevented signed requests from falling back to an empty secret.
 * Added API base URL sanitization and normalization.
 * Removed inline admin app container styling from render output.
 * Updated readme wording to describe native WordPress admin screens.
 * Added an explicit WooCommerce dependency admin notice.
 * Removed duplicate ABSPATH guard in the gateway class.
 * Refreshed readme metadata and changelog for the current release.

#### 1.2.5.0

 * Previous release.
