Gracias por tu respuesta. Lo cierto es que la web parece ir a trompicones… en algunos momentos y no parece que sea por trafico …
Tampoco consigo activar gzip ( solo si instalo w3 total cache) pero ese plugin también ralentiza la marcha general de la web.
ya no se que hacer para afinar vía .htaccess el manejo de la web, he seguido los consejos que aqui mismo se indican

Lo normal sería que hablaras con el soporte de tu hosting y que te activaran la compresión. No deberías tener que editar el .htaccess para ello.
La web va un poco lenta pero no tiene nada que ver con WordPress sino con el servidor que tarda bastante en responder.
