  1. Upload the plugin files to the /wp-content/plugins/plugin-name directory, or install the plugin through the WordPress plugins screen directly.
  2. Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ screen in WordPress.
  3. Follow the Setup Wizard or the steps below
  4. Create a page and add the shortcode [basepress] to that page.
  5. Go to BasePress->Settings->General and select the page you just created on ‘Knowledge Base page’.
  6. Select ‘Single Knowledge Base Mode’ if you just need a single knowledge base skipping the knoledge bases selection page.
  7. Start creating your first Knowledge Base and sections.
  8. Add your articles.


I don’t need multiple Knowledge Bases can I still use it as standard knowledge base?

Yes. You just need to enable the ‘Single Knowledge Base mode’ in the settings and it would work as a standard Knowledge Base.
You still need to create a Knowledge Base under Knowledge Base->Manage KBs before adding sections and articles.

Can I customize the look of the knowledge base?

Yes of course. There a few ways to do it depending on your needs:

  1. Simple modifications are possible via css on your theme stylesheet.
  2. You can customize the look by creating a child theme of one of the default themes that comes with the plugin.
  3. Build your own theme using HTML, CSS and functions made available by BasePress to easily access the knowledge base content.

I get 404 pages in the knowledge base

A 404 page will appear if any of the following cases is true:

  1. You haven’t selected the main page containing the shortcode in the General settings.
  2. You haven’t created any Knowledge Base yet.
  3. You haven’t created any section yet.
  4. You haven’t selected any Knowledge Base or section for the articles.
  5. You have changed the slug of the page with the shortcode. In this case just go to WP Settings->Permalinks and just click ‘Save Changes’.

My knowledge base page is empty

For the knowledge base to appear you needs at least a Knowledge Base a Section and an article ready.
Knowledge Bases or sections without any article are not displayed by default.

Can I upgrade to the Premium version and keep my content?

Yes. You can use the free version and build your knowledge base as long as you like. If you then decide to upgrade to get all Premium features you can do it directly from within the plugin.
All your content will remain intact. New features might not be anabled after upgrade. Just go to BasePress->Settings and activate the ones you need.

Is this a limited version?

No. You get a fully functional plugin with no restrictions. You can create unlimited knowledge bases, sections and articles.

Can I use BasePress in my language?

BasePress is fully translatable via .pot files which you can find inside the plugin folder under languages.
If you need a multilingual knowledge base than consider upgrading to our Premium version for WPML compatibility.

Can I get support for this plugin?

If you need help getting BasePress to work or you have found a bug, please open a support ticket from the plugin’s menu.
Customers of our Premium Version get full priority support for a year from the date of purchase.

I added this plugin to create an internal Knowledge Base for our collaborators. It's the only one proposing to have more than 2 section level in the free version. I bought the premium version the Day after because of the integration with SearchWP. The results is as good as as wanted. I needed some customization, and the team was highly reactive (not days, hours !). I'm really totally satisfied !

We purchased this KB simply for the reason that it appears so clean in frontend (Modern Theme). It has everything that you will need to build a knowledge base. We already have MineraKB but their sidebars are via Widget and their look and feel suck... I tried Echo, BetterDoc plugins - before purchasing this one... Not only this plugin is neat, the backend is also aesthetically appealing - suggesting that the developer is also an artist... 🙂 After purchasing, I faced some issues... Developer replied very quickly and resolved all my queries... He also walked extra mile and helped me on some theme related issues - to make my KB look as I wanted... I will strongly recommend to use this plugin...

We tested quite a lot of Knowledge Base plugins and none of them was as good as BasePress Knowledge Base. We really appreciate all the options it offers and that it is very flexible. We received great support from Eliot and are happy customers.

This is BY FAR the best KB and documentation plugin. It has been improved A LOT since lauch. I have researched almost all KB plugins, and this is what I was looking for. Thanks for such an amazing piece of software. Pro version features are fantastic!

Very impressive. Bear in mind that prior to knowing about Basepress, I was looking at spending $20p/m with an online help desk service. This is a much better solution for me as it keeps my knowledge base 'in house', so I don't have to worry about what happens to all my articles when my contract with an external provider ends. I had a support question about overriding templates and Elio got back to me within 3 hours. Which I though was pretty cool. All in all, the install was easy, the decision to upgrade was immediately obvious, and the subsequent process to purchase and install the premium version was seamless. Cannot fault this plugin at all. Will be keeping my open for other plugins by codeSavory.
