Now you can enable user mention functionality in post comments without using BuddyPress plugin.

This plugin is useful for those who wants to enable mention on their blog site.

What this plugin does? Just wring username followed by ‘@’ in comment box. It will send the email to mentioned user.

Email setting is provided in backend. You can change email subject and content by your own.

PRO Features

Search by First/Last name while mention.
Search by Display name while mention.
Enable mentioning on Page comment.
Added option to Turn off Email notification.
Go to wp-admin –> Comment Mention

Got it working - good job. Also, clicking on @link brings up author page, and most commenters are not authors.

It is a simple yet Easy to use plugin that has been highly useful in my work. Kudos to the author who who helped me modify the logic as per my need in just 4 days! Highly recommend this over other similar plugins which either dont have the autocomplete feature or just dont send the email notifications. this does what the description suggests and then some!
