The Newsletter Plugin provides all the technical tools needed to achieve GDPR compliancy and we’re continuously working to improve them and to give support even for specific use cases.
The plugin does not collect users’ own subscribers data, nor it has any access to those data: hence, we are not a data processor, so a data processing agreement is not needed.
Anyway if you configure the plugin to use external services (usually an external mail delivery service) you should check with that service if some sort of agreement is required.

In freemium you'll be able to have subscriptions, confirmation mails and the ability to send newsletters. You can configure the newsletter that have only the latest post. You'll have to send the newsletter manually after you write a new post.
If you want to send the mail automatically after you created a new post. You can install the automated add-on via their integrated add-on installer for $56 if I'm not mistaken. I didn't buy or try that.

It's really amazing. And simple. The only thing I miss is the translation. I mean the option of .po and .mo files. For the paid version in other plugins.

The plugin works, and it does send newsletter.
However, UI need serious improvement and is has several annoying, but not critical, bugs.
A lot of time, when composing, the real time preview is not working at all. Sometimes even clicking on apply does not work.
Regarding styling your newsletter, a lot is missing. No custom CSS allowed in the block comper mode, and no blocks allowed in the code mode. You cannot switch between those method either.
Available Blocks have very minimal customization option and sometime you have to reload the page in order to make them work properly.
If you're searching for a simple, ready to use, plugin, this is not for you.
If you're searching for a complete yet not so intuitive plugin, this is a very good choice.
Do not download it if design is a big issue for you!
Price is ok. I really hope in improvement during the rest of the year.

Have used on multiple sites for several years.
Works well with my SMTP provider (Sendgrid). Fast sending and good statistics.
Visual editor is all I need to compose emails.
Nice integration with WordPress user list to add to your mailing lists.

I was forced by the EU law to stop using my newsletter service which is outside of the EU, as a new legal regulation (again) has cancelled what we were allowed in the past. I had a look what is offered here in the EU alternatively and all do have a huge price tag once you have reached a certain amount of subscribers.
Then just before I signed a contract I stumbled on this plugin here.
I installed it just for testing and evaluation.
I was impressed right away by the free features and start configuring it and see how it performs and works. No issues. I even was able to create a subscription using an existing booking form I use and subscribe bookers to my newsletter if they want.
So impressed, I bought the blogger extension package just to support the developer, however, the extra plugins are worth to spend the money, with these the plugin has even more options and powerful features the professional mailing list service I was just about to sign up with is not offering for far more money.
Thanks and cudos to the programmers, for such a great well designed, structured and working plugin.
If you are looking for a self hosted newsletter plugin to be GDPR compliant and don't want to spend thousands of Euros, give The Newsletter Plugin a try - I bet you gonna love it like I do.
